Cane Festival
Harvest time for the cane in Australia is from June to December, and in August for the rest of the world.
Most of the cane crop is grown in Queensland and some in Maclean, New South Wales; they hold sugar or cane festivals.
This gives people a chance to have fun during the work of harvesting.
Just before harvest, the cane is burnt to remove dead leaves and to drive out pests. Machines then cut it to the ground. Before machines came in the cutting was done by hand.
